From Health to Wealth Vol 1 No. 1
Welcome to a new day.
Today’s Health Tip:
Express Gratitude
Gratitude is a feeling of appreciation for the gifts in your life. Whether it is a kindness from another person or to yourself. When we express and share gratitude we are helping our own mental and emotional well-being.
Kindness can be expressed in the form of a gift, help, words, a favor, or another form of generosity.
Be sure to express your gratitude to others whether they are just doing their job or have gone above and beyond to help you.
Everyone appreciates a thank you and occassionally you will be the one receiving it. Not only does saying thank you cost nothing, you never know the impact you can have on the person you thank. Think about a time when someone gave you a thank you note or even said thank you. How did it make you feel? I am sure you felt pretty good about it. You can find stories all over the internet about someone who hit rock bottom and was considering ending their life but then someone showed them gratitude and thanked them or did them a kindness and it turned their life around.
Things you can do to express your gratitude to others might be:
- Try thanking the server for refilling your beverage.
- If you can afford it, pay it forward.
- Write a note of appreciation and leave it for your coworker or family member after they help you.
Then again it can be hard to be grateful when we are at our lowest of lows so that is when we need to show ourselves gratitude and find the things we are grateful for. If you find yourself feeling down, show your gratitude for what you do have that is positive in your life.
You can find gratitude in something that makes your life better such as, ” I am thankful I have shoes that fit me”. Another area to find gratitude is someone you are grateful for having in your life. Another area to be grateful for is a basic need that has been met for the day. Whatever comes to your mind there is no right or wrong in where you find gratitude.
Today’s Wealth Tip: Money Management
Set Financial Goals
Wealth doesn’t magically happen by spinning straw into gold or finding a goose that lays golden eggs. There is a lot of moving parts that must come together and a plan is the glue to make it a reality.
Setting financial goals can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start and consist of spending, savings, investing or even earnings. First knowing your goals will help you to make the decisions needed to create a budget and set smaller goals.
Keep it simple and follow these 5 steps:
- Decide what is most important to you and write it down.
- Create mini-goals. (Short-term, mid-term and long-term) be sure these goals are achievable in order to prevent discouragement.
- Review your income and expenses so you can see how much money comes in and goes out each month. This is the backbone of your budget.
- Track your goals to see if you are meeting them and be sure to break big goals into smaller short-term benchmarks because this will make them easier to achieve.
- Adjust your goals as needed. Goals should not set in stone in fact they should be fluid so you can adjust them as needed. Despite your best laid plan, as you know, unexpected expenses and occassional setbacks can change your state of affairs. Therefore, you will need to revisit your goals and revise your plan.
When reviewing your expenses so you can set up your budget, differentiate between wants and needs. Cutting out the Wants can help you save faster or find that extra money you may need.
Here are a few examples:
NEEDS:
- Gas for the car
- Food Staples (basics)
- Internet (this could be a “want”)
- Phone
WANTS:
- Seat Covers
- Subscription Streaming Apps
- Convenience Foods/Junk Food
- Smart Phone
